The Soft Car 360 is a whole vehicle target that is durable, lightweight, and collapsible, so that it can withstand impacts without damaging the test vehicle or itself. It is propelled by a separate overrunable robotic platform and separates into lightweight parts on impact, minimizing damage to the test vehicle. It can also be used as a static target when placed on a stationary stand.
Available in hatchback, sedan and micro versions, the hatchback version of the Soft Car 360 has been adopted as the Global Vehicle Target (GVT) for the Euro NCAP ADAS testing.
With a combination of photo-realistic outer skin and built-in radar reflectivity, the Soft Car 360 body has been extensively tested by DRI to ensure that it is recognised as a real car. We partnered with over a dozen OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers to calibrate the Soft Car 360 to be representative of a small passenger vehicle to all relevant automotive sensors, including radar, LiDAR, IR and camera sensor systems.
The modular design of the Soft Car 360 is the key to its durability. It begins to separate upon initial impact, thus reducing the forces exerted on the test vehicle and the Soft Car 360 components. The patented combination of lightweight foam covered with high-strength vinyl makes the Soft Car 360 the most durable surrogate vehicle available. It is capable of handling over 100 impacts at 116 km/h (72 mph) and the hatchback version has performed the Euro NCAP 2020 LSS test at a closing speed of 144kph. If any piece gets damaged, it can be replaced without needing to buy a completely new Soft Car 360.
The structural design of the Soft Car 360 body also results in unparalleled aerodynamic stability, enabling the hatchback version to test at speeds of up to 120km/h – essential for ensuring that the target is reliably recognized by test vehicles’ ADAS sensors. Together with the AB Dynamics GST 120 it is the perfect system for testing highway assist and drive pilot systems at realistic highway speeds.
The Soft Car 360 is available in three configurations: the Euro NCAP approved Hatchback, a Sedan and a Micro vehicle.
This is the most popular version of the Soft Car 360 and has been adopted as the Global Vehicle Target (GVT) for the Euro NCAP ADAS testing.
The Soft Car 360 Sedan represents a midsize vehicle.
This is the smallest version of the Soft Car 360 product line, providing reduced reassembly time and weight.
